My domain registrar sent me this with there news letter type thing:
A move for ORG
At the end of the year, the ORG registry will be reassigned to a new registry operator, which will reduce Verisign Registry’s holdings to only COM and NET. A number of organizations will bid for this registry of 2.3 million domains and the ICANN board will be set to make their decision in the upcoming months.

Now I have a .org account... Does this mean they might not let me use it anymore?!

I know it will be better for the internet organisationally wise, but still, its my domain!

Anyone else here anything about this?

It wont effect you as you have signed a contract and have paid ( I hope ) for the domain. It just a shift in management thats all.

What would they do with all the .orgs if they didnt let you reregister, keep them in a cupboard for a rainy day!!

They wouldnt be able to take part in the deal if they werent going to let people reregister, it is just taking the load off of Verisign. ICANN wouldnt let a company take over the management of the .org domain if they werent going to run the system as normal.

I meant like only allow actually no profit organizations use it, like it was supose to be. Just like I cant register a .gov domain (oh would that be fun :D ), but government agencies can.

If I could register a .gov site I would set a rival to the United Nations web site, secret covert organistion.... abit like the A-Team maybe...yeah!!
