In my personal website, I want to put in a downloads section. I want to upload software to my site so that people can download them. Most of this software will be shareware. I was just wondering is this legal? Can some computer programmer be surfing my site and see their program for download and sue me or something like that? Just want to make sure, I don't want any lawsuits. Can someone respond back with legal information about this subject?

I'm not sure if there is a single rule that applies to all sharware programs, but the general rule is that you may distribute shareware programs to third parties, you may not sell shareware programs without permission from the owner or licensor and you must get permission to distribute shareware bundled with another program that is being sold.

That's exactly right. In general, shareware was developed for sharing. However you might find it cheaper to link to the developer's own download file.
