That's a great idea!
I think 15mb seems to be the standard, and also speed is very important, especially if you want users to upgrade to a paid account!
And you might want to think about offering either ASP or PHP, because a lot of free sites are offering CGI, but I've seen a lot of people on my message board asking for free hosts that support PHP or ASP. www.ewebcity.com (http://www.ewebcity.com) , www.isamillionaire.com (http://www.isamillionaire.com) , www.jumpworld.net (http://www.jumpworld.net) , and www.freebox.com (http://www.freebox.com) are good free no ads and CGI support servers, but the speed is very slow especially on jumpworld and isamillionaire, and they support PHP, so my guess is that if you support PHP or ASP and havea nice speed you will have a lot of users, at least a lot from my board anyways at www.worldrule.com/forums (http://www.worldrule.com/forums)

PS. PHP without MySQL does not make sense, so you'd have to support MySQL as well

Just my 2 cents!

Before you start out you should go around and make a list of all available features at other free hosting services. Then from their features, combine the best and go with that.

Also, if you can, try asking around to see what different people would like to see in a free host. Obviously you won't be able to do everything they request but it will give you an idea of what to offer.

and yet you will offer 100% free domain names?

Sorry I did not reply to this questions but I'm been busy Redesigning the website just to get a nice look. Also I have to get a cgi script that will allow me to offer this services. I will post any updates here or Check my site at http://www.starweblink.net for any news. Free Domains? I never mention any free domains to offer. I think that will be kind of too much for me. I try to accommodate every one... Can you please check also on the prices for hosting and give me a opinion... I just need to know what do you think do not worry when I said FREE is FREE 100% only if you like to change to a pay host. Let me know and send your opinions and comments to webmaster@starweblink.net. If you think you could help out let me know.... maybe cgi or html since I'm not that good. Also I'm looking for serious Web designers to offer their services. I will host your site including your already domain name if you have one. You will do you business from your site. You will offer your services and get pay for it I'll get nothing from you income. Just let me know who are interested on offering their services and start their business.

Hello every one!
Can you help test this control panel and add your opinion on the service. the idea is at the end to offer Free space and be able to use CGI on your free space. no banners require for user. the test will last until I get enough feedback and fix any security problems. is the only way for me to give you ftp access, this control panel will have the following functions:
1) CHMOD Files -> 0777 0755 0666 0644 0664 0744 for now.
2) Upload files as your regular ftp program
3) Zip Files
4) make directories and sub directories
5) Edit you files
6) Password protect your directories
7) Dual View to make things easier to transfer files between directories.
Plus more.....

Do not upload anything that is important to you since this is a Demo and every one will have access to it.

You could test it at http:www.starweblink.net/member/Demo/controlpanel.cgi I modify this Ver. for my project.

I will open up my forum and I hope you will give me enough feedback about it, and what do you think. I welcome all the opinions either bad or good. if I get no feedback them I will cancel the project and there will be no free space for your web.

Remember to post your Comments on my Forum at the same time you will be testing the new forum made by Jacky. this beautiful UltraBoard.

Thank you

O.k new changes had been made to this Free Program. thanks to Greg I be able to finish the Free space program. right now there are not changes on the software, until I get a few amall isues to be solve for the account automatation.
To try the program you will need to Register on my UB at http://www.starweblink.net/forums/UltraBoard.cgi?action=Register and Register. once you Register you will need to go at http://www.starweblink.net/username. replace username for your UB username and login. you will find 2 Files when you loging controlpanel.cgi and FAQ.html. click on the controlpanel.cgi and you are ready to upload, ZIP, Edit, Transfer, Copy, rename, CHMOD etc. but you need to remember one thing... this is not ready yet so if you like to register go ahead I will update the controlpanel later so you will be able to CHMOD 755 for your folders and CGI scripts. Please post your comments good or bad to the Free Space forum so I see what the users think of the program or I will shotdown the free services. also read the Announcement for the latest news on the board.

Thanks to Greg we are the First UB user offering free space to the users.

I kept on clicking on the link to go to your website, but it kept on getting an error message. (was it: http://www.starweblink.net/).If yes, it doesn't work.

Also, I was wondering if you support ext.:
.class, .jar, .au, .dat, .txt, .cgi, .jsp. If yes, I would like to join your service.

Also, could you INCREASE the space to about 50MB. Thanks.

I was looking for free webhosters to support these files and .cgi, but I couldn't find one.

If you do support these files, I would definitly like to join you'll.

Beware of banner free hosting. If the company (if it even is a company) is not making a profit, they will not be around long.

***WARNING***

One day after promising great future options in its Forums, Gcites dropped all of its members with no prior warning.

Now they are back disguised as a web ad company, again claiming "great" plans with their new partner- host50.com.

Host50 looks suspiciously like the old Gcites, right down to the format, color, and icons.

Beware putting all your eggs in one basket with this service. When these guys get tired of not making money from lack of ads they will change their operations for the worse or drop you again.

Free hosting that looks too good to be true usually is. Try an established off-shore no ads host like www.virtue.nu (http://www.virtue.nu) or compromise on what inconveniences you can tolerate. Otherwise this could be you soon.

Hey StarWebLink...are you hosting this your self? If so what kind of servers do you have? And what kind of Connection do you have to the internet? And how much will the upgrade cost and exactly what will it get you?
