I just upgraded to the newest version of my antivirus software, and it has a firewall built into it.

When ever someone (or thing) tries to attack the firewall, the system tray icon changes into a bell, and I can open up the splash screen and it will show the time, the IP address and the type of the attack.

There are basically 3 types of attacks that I have seen.

NetBIOS Browsing
Traceroute
SYN Flooding

My question is, what do each of these attack types mean?

the NetBois is a port on your computer that generally handles the network part of it. you can cose that port so noone will see it.

traceroute is a program that looks up ip address nd tells you hwere in the world they are. so if I get yourip I can find out what city/state you live in, or country.

the last one if, well I never heard of it, but I can take a shot. flooding is they tried a range of ip address's like

123.123123.54 - 123.123.123.65 and you happen to be in that range I think.

if you want to find out more head over to grc.com and run the shieldsUp program. it will explain how to close the Netbios port and make yourself run in stealth mode on all others. excellent site.
