Hello,

Total newbie looking to have a site put together
which will include a 'member db', login to 'members area',
allow members to update their info on the db from the
'members area,' form to db, members able to look up their position in the organization, etc., all the pretty typical elements of an organizations' site on the web.

The questions are:

1) What is the best platform to do this in: ASP or PHP,
I'd like the site to be very proficient, stable,
user friendly, and most importantly :) db maintainer
(operator) friendly.
2) I'm familiar right now with the Access db, not at all with MYSQL. I'd rather work with Access but again I want a pro site, so if MYSQL is heads and shoulders above Access I can do some learning. Given the choice, and the big picture as described above, which db system would you prefer to work with and then what is the best combo of platfrom and db?

Your time and opinions are greatly appreciated. I do currently have the site pretty much done in ASP right now but if PHP is that much better now would be the time for me to make the change if neccesary so all opinions are certainly welcomed and I appreciate your time taken in helping me out with your advice. Take care.

sorry haven't been able to apply for the last couple of days

well I will tell you my opinion then you can decide then.

php is more dynamic for webpages then ASP, but if you already know it then go with ASP. I won't answer the DB question as this is serverisde forum and you asked the same Q in the database forum. and try not to cross-post like this.

I think you can do more with php, in my view, some people will tell me wrong but I don't use ASP. although ASP has been around longer it is only Win32 specific as you can run in on a windows server. as with php you can run it in all platforms. php is coming around and already has a million servers it's been installed on.
