my site has been going for about 2 months now, and i get about 50 unique visitors a day which isnt that bad. But none of these come from any search engine.
I submitted my site to alot of search engines, and it never comes up in any, with the exception of exact seek.
I followed some guidlines on making meta tags from around the web but my site isnt being picked up by search engines.
Its a Music website, dedicated to So Solid Crew (A UK Music Group). There isnt a great deal of sites dedicated to so solid crew, if you type it into a search engine you will only get a few and the rest are news/music sites about them.
Can anyone give me tips or tell me why i dont get any hits from search engines.
Thanx
my site (http://www.sosolidplanet.com)

First change yout title.Make sure that it makes some sense, like welcome to sosolid.com - news, music and more.
Next change your keywords -
Right now you have these keywords
"so solid, so solid crew, 21 seconds, so solid planet, Best So Solid Site on the net"
How many people do you think would search for - solid screw or so solid planet.I guess many wont searh for those keywords.Try adding words like Music, news or something like that which people would search for in a search engine.Add more keywords.Your keywords are too small now.
Also make your discription a little bigger.I hope if you make the changes your would get some visitors from search engines.
Good luck :)

Also, on your main page you have this typed in 3 times:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="so_solid.css" type="text/css">

The answer would be Yes if you use the right keywords for your site and if you submit your sites to search engines :D

i have! well at least i think i have :D
I had a look at some of the key words the official site used and some of them will obviously be the same since the sites on the same subject.
I have submited to the major search engines manually (not 1 of them click to submit to 30 search engines things) and the open directory aswell.

Any ideas on how to get listed higher in google? and also what about Altavista & Lycos, i'm not in them yet and i have submitted.

Your site's forum is in NO 2 position when I searched for SO SOLID PLANET
:) and again I want to point out that you dont have enough keywords. To get high listings in google the keywords in ur meta tags must be there in you site content and you would get a higher listing if u have links to your site from other websites.
Lycos and Altavista take some time to crawl pages.Wait for another 2 - 4 weeks and then re-submit your site does not get listed.

Ok just a simple question here, is it essential to have meta-tags placed on every page or just the 'index.html' ?

It Depends on what you want.If you want all the pages in your site to get higher rankings in search engines then put meta tags for all your pages.Even if you put the meta tags only in the index page, other pages would be indexed by the search engine but they might not get higher ranking.

Add this to the top of each of your pages
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
Have keywords that also are on the page being viewed, I keep the same tags for all pages but add in extra keywords for whichever page is loaded, if its a sports page, I would add in, NHL Hockey NFL Football etc.
Also pull out the comma's between your keywords.
