Adobe photoshop is the ultimate because of it's ease of use and pure genius!

If your looking for a starting point I'd recommend giving Paint shop pro a try. It's got similar functions to photoshop but is only little.

I have both, PhotoShop and Paint Shop Pro in my machine. To be honest, I started with PSP and I love it. I understand that PhotoShop is more powerfull than PSP but the learning curve is much higher and I can do almost everything I need using PSP. The version 7 is fantastic. Sometimes I do half of the image using PhotoShop and half using PSP.
Besides, PSP is much cheaper. You can download a 30-day free trial version of PSP at www.jasc.com (http://www.jasc.com)
Good luck.

With the introduction of photoshop 6.0 I would never want another graphics editor.

It has new features which make it more like a vector program, for example curving text, and preset shapes.

Its almost like using a desktop publishing program with more powerful capabilities.

i like paint shop pro 7, because it is quite easy to use and very reasonable priced as graphics software goes. you also get animation shop with it which provides a very simple way of making animated banners etc.

i have used photoshop a little, but it is harder to learn as others have said and is extremely expensive. having said that it is the industry standard. for many jobs, knowledge of it is required.

but for anyone who just makes small sites for a hobby, i think you should be able to do anything you want with paint shop pro and have a far healthier bank balance!

I use PhotoShop and Corel.
Photoshop is a great program with very few limitations. It's the standard for editing materials for the printing industry for good reason.
Corel was a bit confusing at first but once you get going it's pretty easy to use and has a wide range of features
I would highly recommend both of them.

its photoshop for me. I dig using it, but the learning curve is a little rough, due to the extensive amount of things you are capeable of doing with it. Its really geared for the all out graphics person, there are easier tools-not as richly developed.

I'm still using PSP, the controls just seem simpler, and I've never done anything too complex. Although when I get the time, I do have every intention of learning Photoshop, since it does offer some more power.

I use MS PhotoDraw 2000 v2.......I know its a weak-ass program compared to Adobe, but I didnt have 600 dollars to spend. It does what I need it to do, so Im happy with it.

Hi All!

I start using PSP v3 and now I am using PSP v7. I like it very much - it is a very very easy to understand and to play with software. I found PS little bit difficult to understand, though it has some very good features also.

But, i tried last month Photo Impact v6 and I found it good and interesting also and it looks more complete software to me, becuase you can do so many things with it - even html tags can be generated.

I vote for PSP as the best one.

PSP is reasonably priced, has good deal and features e.g. filters, effects. As mentioned, the learning curve is better on PSP. Adobe might be more powerful, if only you had $609 to spend.

I use PSP and I can do some great things with it. It just took me a while to figure it out cuz' I had to look up tuts and screw around with it.

I have L-View Pro, PSP & Photoshop in my HD. I use PSP and Photoshop only when doing serious editing. For simpler editing, I'd use L-View, because it's lower RAM needs. PSP & Photoshop are huge RAM eaters.

Well guys, i am addicted to using my Fireworks 4 as my graphics editor. I have Photo Shop 6.0.1 and just discovered Image Ready 3.0
A friend said he perfers Image Ready 3.0, so i am reading up on it.
I just hate how Fireworks chops a whole web page up in Gifs or jpg's.
Fireworks anyone?
