Has anyone tried this software, CoffeeCup HTML Editor? Free trail versions are located at www.coffeecup.com. (http://www.coffeecup.com.) I downloaded version 7.0 (they are currently offering v8.5) and played with it but have never wanted to spend the time to truely make this a tool.

I am currently using Wordpad to do all my webpage creation and it's becoming more and more time consuming as my pages become more complexed. I am going to invest in a HTML editor and was wondering if this, or another shareware program, was dynamic enough to facilitate advanced webpage development, javascript, DHTML, CSS2, CGI, etc., or if I should bite-the-bullet and buy a Dreamweaver or some other commercial software?

Hi Dave,

ONLY speaking for myself I LOVE COFFE CUP!

I've used CC for over 2 years and I personally think it is hands down the best html editor around! But not limiting itself to html only it edits cgi/pl scripts with highlight as well as iff not better than DZsoft Perl. The save features work as good as wordpad (no wrapping or proprietary insertions).

Honestly I could go on for hours...

A quick background is I also own Allaires (Homesite...I think it is) HTML editor, It also has some great features for quick tag info for cross browser compatibility.

I tried Hot dog but personally found it too ugly to deal with but it doesn't alter input.

Dreamweaver (2) is a very powerful editor which will allow you to easily and seemlessly work your Flash animations into (both Macromedia products). And is very good with CSS pages...(Not really for a beginner or lower leveled intermediate).

FrontPage SUCKS! And I don't just say that as an MS basher...there are lots of problems including having to learn how to put even a simple counter into it! Cross browser problems with netscape, opera and chameleon.

Well that's MY two cents http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

I have owned and used CC for over 2 years and I always get the new release free of charge! And usually some other programs that they offer, come free with registered users!

Well download a couple and see what fits your fancy!

Well I think that CC is a good editor guys, but I prefer Arachphilia. As well as HTML, CGI/pl, it also edits Java source files, and CSS.
I agree with Titan that you should download them all, and see what fits your fancy!

That's my 2 & 1/2 cents http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

I have recently purchased DreamWeaver, from Macromedia. Give me a week to figure this thing out, it looks like it has great potential though.

Dreamweaver is great. I don't use it simply because it has too many fetures for me. I'm thestright text kinda person. However if you can afford it, by all means get it!

(Let me know if you have any questions on DW Jacob. I can tell you it can be a pill when your first starting on it.)

I've been using DreamWeaver recently, though I've used CoffeeCup before and the best about it is it's FREE. Now all the versions(I think) you download from CNet (http://downloads.cnet.com) are free. DreamWeaver is $219 at its cheapest :(

Coffee Cup is great, but its not my favorite.
I like to use HTMLpad 2000 www.htmlpad.com (http://www.htmlpad.com) I think thats right. It has most of the features that CC has, but its quicker, and mush easier, and for web designers, thats a must. :)
