Real men use wordpad. Triple the character space, for those heavy duty websites.

sorry for posting in your browser debate isaac, i didn't realise that freehtml had dedicated a topic to editors - good idea freehtml http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif
i really like notepad but i'm afraid that i have succumbed to the temptation of notetab too! it is easy to use, you can work with huge files if you need to, you can open as many files as you like at once, you can choose the font and background colour of it (i like silly stuff like that!), there is an autocorrect facility an other cool bits that i haven't had time to figure out yet.
i haven't hit the replace ms notepad button in it yet, but it could happen any day now...sorry isaac it looks like you'll soon be on your own on this one!

Notetab is really the best.
I had start using it till its present version 4.82..
Clipbook aids a lot when doing those Cut and copy stuff.
Really had to try it to know what I mean

Ok you guys, I'm beat.
Notetab is pretty good though I find two flaws:
1. It will not open Perl/CGI files---Notepad will.
2. It agments some portions of JAVA source code---Notepad dosen't.
One editor I use now and then that might be of intrest to the color coding people here is Arachnophilia. It will open just about any text/code file type and it comes with a nice little instant preview feature. http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

Isaac,
I do all my CGI/PERL/Javascript coding using notetab, it handles all perl/cgi extensions fine for me. I have found that notetab does a better job of displaying the contents of a file, as it has the ability to filter out binary spaces, that otherwise in notepad would appear like "[]" (those black blocks)
freehtml, I'll have to checkout that clipbook feature, as I find myself copying and pasting all the time. I just haven't had the time to really "explore" the full functionality of this (great) program.

Jason, your right! Notetab does work in Perl/CGI. I think I had an old version of notetab and it didn't support anything other then HTML, so CGI and JS showed up as something like ascii art...thank for the info. http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

I use the freeperlcode editor for perl. It works pretty nice. The syntax coloring saves me problems sometimes.

Hi,
I swear by HomeSite...i think it is the best text editor period... Opens basically any file and formats as well. Plus it has all the tools you need for html, javascript, cold fusion, cgi, etc... build in...
The best thing i like is the fact that you can open 15 files and switch between them easily using the tabs at bottom.
Another highlight is the fact that you can tell it what format to save as in a PC or UNIX file...so that it doesn't put the carriage returns and return chars in the file. This is especially useful for me because i do a lot of live editing on our web server which is on the same network as i am...so i can just open the file directly in using HomeSite...save it and its ready...no ftp crap to deal with...saves a step.
It also, color codes, cool indenting features...Homesite is the only program that i have kept for more than 2 years. HomeSite 3 is just as good as 4 so either one is still great in my mind.

Well, I use NoteTab Pro and I find it pretty useful. Here (http://download.cnet.com/downloads/1,10150,0-10001-103-0-1-7,00.html?tag=srch&qt=pad&cn=&ca=10001) are some replacements for NotePad.
