Hey Isaac,

Keep away from illustrator, I've beeen trying to figure that thing out for a month! Phosothop looks promising through. It's suppose to have more power than PSP, but it will take some adjustment time. The features work pretty differently. Even the fill option can only be used on a "selection". But it's not too bad of an adjustment http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

C'mon guys, PSP is still pretty good. But when compared to a pro' tool like photoshop, of course it's going to suck http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

And I have yet to dish out the 500+ bucks to buy it!

Also, all graphics in the (new) 123web control panel will be done with PSP. Jalouda, check it out when it comes out (soon hopefully, working out all the netcake layout bugs) just tell me what you would like to know how to do.

Regards,

One question at a time:

1. By "on the fritz", I was refering to it refusing to start, the text tool not working...and when I reinstall it that just seems to make the problems worse.

2. Illustrator is easy, (think layers ...)

3. Jalounda, download PSP from www.softseek.com (http://www.softseek.com) and then I'll clue you in on a little something...

4. Now if I could just afford it...

5. Do you guys have a freeware of shareware program that would work? I don't do to much hevy duty graphics stuff, anything comparable w/PSP will do for now.

hi again isaac,
i already have psp but it is only version 4. it has gone way past the 30 day trial too..not my usual practice don't worry but i am not going to pay up for something that i can't really figure out! because i haven't registered (yet) can i just upgrade to a later version (7 beta or something?) or would i need to uninstall and install later one. i get this psp newsletter thing and people often seem to have trouble getting it to install properly and when they go messin with different versions it all goes pear shaped so i would appreciate your advice on that one. thanks for your offer of help too jacob http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

as for freeware/shareware apps isaac, i haven't found any much use ..in fact one totally messed things up and i couldn't view any graphics on my pc at all http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/eek.gif

but one that i do recommend is Harm's Tile 99 which you can get at http://www.users.uswest.net/~sharman1/. ok now before i start getting laughed out of the place, i admit it is no psp - it is basic, a bit buggy in places and you won't be able to do very much with it!

but i can figure some of it out so i like it http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif it is designed for making tiled backgrounds but i have never been able to figure that bit out really. i use it for making buttons and other bits and pieces. you can do really basic looking stuff in a flash and it is a small download too.

i am positive that it will be of no use whatsoever to you guys, but just in case some newbies with very limited needs want something free and easy, i thought i would mention it http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

PAINT SHOP PRO 7 TRIAL IS FREE RIGHT NOW!

It's beta, but it's 100% FREE!
http://www.jasc.com/psp7.asp?

I bet it'll still beat the pants over any freeware program on the web, download it while you can.

For those lost using PsP, I just found a site that seems to have some tutorials on it, I have no idea how good they are, but thought I'd post it anyway http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif
Hope they are of some use. http://www.coolresources.com/

thanks for the link ian.

those tutorials are idiot proof since i can follow them http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif i hope they add some more advanced ones soon. i had figured out how to do the stuff they cover but i haven't got much further! the cool thing about the tuts is that it's like watching a presentation - you are shown a cursor moving to the right button etc so you see it all instead of just reading a long description. thanks again1

Ian,

On ICQ you mentioned that you had downloaded that psp 7 beta. I didn't have time to get a complete evaluation from you, but you seemed displeased with it to say the least http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

What was wrong with the thing?

PsP7 beta is a 26 meg download, PsP full version is 14+ meg to download. Hmmm, you ask, what else in it is so huge, well I never got that far. On execution of the .exe file, I ws presented with some microsoft installer that caused me to reboot so it could re-configue my system, then once that was done, it presented a window telling you that you HAD to registar the program online to continue installation. (not a big deal). How ever, apart from FORCING you to registar it, it wanted to know EVERYTHING about who you were, what do you do, how many pc's ya have, and tons of even more personal questions. After about the third screen of this and them prying far to much into my personal life asking questions that is none of their damn business, I hit the "exit setup" button.
Enough was enough.

Well Ian, guess there's no such thing as a free lunch. Even if you don'y pay, they still want something. Looks like they are looking to capture some marketing information to present to sponsors, or to find their own target audience. Although you can't lie about the information on the form, because it is probably against their terms of service, you can't be help for your...ummm..typos, if you'd like to give the software a try http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif.

26 megs huh? What could it be? Filters? Plugins? Patterns? The mystery awaits!

if you guys are still not convinced that PSP is any good, please check out this site:

xman: wow, that was a great site. I bookmarked it immediately. PSP sure can do some powerful things. Then again, a pro photoshop user is no slouch either, if you haven't seen this site yet, check out http://www.ozones.com you should go pretty deep within the site, he does some amazing work.

Ian: Hey, speaking of psp, how's 7 beta treating you? I hear that you've had some bugs with it! http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

Apart from making a few baners etc recently, I havent done much else with it, but compared to the old PsP's, it has some hot new features. As I never mastered PsP 5, I'll probably never master this one either, but apart from it crashing every so often for no reason, it is a TOP program, it is 100 times better than the old one. http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif
My suggestion is to take the time to download it and give it a try, being free (don't know for how long or if it is time limited), it is worth it. (Just sorta forget your name, address etc and how to spell when it comes to the reg form http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif)

Thanks, I like PSP myself and I do have corel8 but it's too awkward to (or I just don't give it enough time) do simple graphics work...mostly banners, but occasionally splash pages...I used a cracker for V5.0 (no I didn't, I didn't say that)..and have concerned that a new version would overwrite and time out but it went nicely into its own new directory and everything looks good...The tutorials you've supplied are fantastic...

So, Thank you ALL http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

I've got PSP pretty well mastered, now I'm moving onto more challenging program like PhotoShop, and FireWorks.

And let me say this, PSP is EZ compared to these thing http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif

<--- still trying to figure out howto make a simple elipse/cirlce in FirwWorks

The power of these programs is unbelievable, it's learning to harness it that is the trick!
