Preventing Simultaneous calls

I am creating a voting system for a joke website I have made. One issue I have found, is that if I click on 2 thumbs ups from 2 different jokes quickly (or if the request takes a little time due to slow internet speed), then the second one that has been clicked updates twice, and the first one stays loading eternally.

How can I create a que of events to make them "wait their turn"?
