Back Links Question

I often check my back links either by doing Link:mydomain.com on Yahoo - or I go into my Google account (google.com/webmasters). My backlinks were a total of 107 and I believed in building my links slow and steady over a period of time. Well, two days ago, My site shot up in one niche from #85 to #11 and in another was from #37 to #5. Then, last night, I looked in my google account and saw that I had over 500 back links. Then I saw that there were about 400 links from an Arabic site and were different pages within this site with my back links on them. The crazy thing about it was when I went to these pages on the Arabic site - my site's url wasn't there. First of all, I never back linked from this site...but that's fine, I thought some else did. But Google.com/webmasters saying that 400 different pages showing my site had a back link on it - but when I went to these pages - no back link.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm thinking that someone was trying to bring my site down in the serps because this Arabiac site is irrelevant to my site - but it backfired on them and helped my site instead.

in my case google gave my blogspot a rank of 2 then after a week they taken away my PR again. google update so frequently this month. i think thats the problem with your site.. wait for the next google update then check your backlinks again.
