Hey everyone,
I'd just like top point out that in the month that this guy last posted, he has never come back to reply, or follow up on
his post. At any rate, his offer is probably like something detalied in the post here:
http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/Forum2/HTML/000024.html
So if you're really interested in this offer, then check out that post.

I had a look at the link you said to check out and (for others' information) it seemed like a redirecting service that weren't that good at replying to emails.
but good deals (if not free) hosting and domain names is on my mind still, like everyone else's. Any recommendations of a good deal? (for a commercial site I guess geocities won't take it)
Jason

Hi Mazza,
There are a wide varierty of choices. I guess the biggest question for hosting is how big are you, or do you plan to grow in the near future? We have to make sure that you don't overload the server you're on http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif
As far as reasonably priced domains, http://www.homepagenames.com sells for just $13 per domain name per year.

the answer would be small.
I asked this last night somewhere but can't remember where exactly. .
What is the definition of commercial (relevant to, for instance, Geocities saying you can only use their free hosting if you are non-commercial). Would a web page to give info about the services of a consultant, (an embellished CV) be "commercial". Or do you only get labelled that term and denied the free stuff when you start collecting ccard no.s and giving 0800 no.s. for your e-trade?
thanks for the link, Jason. You have a nice smile.
Jason
08-12-2000, 06:49 PM
Technically you are commerical if you plan on making money. However if your are small, and not making a great deal, and don't get loads of traffic, nobody really cares, especially if you don't even have a company. I'm sure you'll be able to pass for non commercial for a good while as far as TOS checkers are involved.

Dear Mazza,
Just a note on the post in http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/Forum2/HTML/000024.html .
Namezero did aanswer my e-mails. Tey were having a server problem when I applied. The main problem with their service is that they put a large frame in your site that is rather ulgy.
The good point here is that the domain is transferable, meaning you can transfer it to another host, (like Geocities.com) and have the page any way you want.
Oh, and we do know how to smile http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/biggrin.gif

Cybersonic,
There is a link in the middle of this message thread, which leads to another thread. There it was dicsussed that using a service that provides a "free" domain has many disadvantages, such as you don't own the domain yourself, and the service will put a big frame with a banner over top of your site.
However, if you still want it, you can get it at http://www.namezero.com
I don't know if the person that posted here owns that service, because they haven't bothered to come back and follow up on their original post over 2 months ago.
If you're looking to a good alternative to a free domain name, I'd reccomend stoping by http://www.budgetregister.com, you can register there for only $15 per year. It is the cheapest place that I've seen so far.

why cant they be smart and offer a free domain and hosting for a banner advertisement? (w/o a huge frame) any company who did this would have a ton of bisness. they would also have to make a minimum hits per month/day requirement though.

Cybersonic,
As you can see the forums have began some heavy construction, with category modifications, and a new design etc. We've been moving threads around left and right, and will do so for another day or so. When we're done, we're going to be giving these forums some heavy promotion, so if you post somewhere in the commerce center, you may get lucky. Also, if you post a little bit about your site there, I might be able to help find a solution for you as well.

We can get .co.uk's free here in the good ol' UK of GB.
The only catch is that you need to dial their number to access your site.
Calls are the standard rate, so may people continue to dial-up via the same number for all their e-needs.
How come no one in the US does the same?

NOTHING is ever really totally free. I highly, highly recommend HomePageNames.com as you can get your own domain name for $15US per year... Like you can't afford THAT? and they give FREE re-direction, FREE URL masking (of your free site, or whatever) and DNS control... absolutely THE BEST service on the planet. If you want to see what it does, go to one of my sites such as http://14Help.com which is REALLY a page on one of my other sites.... but you would never know it because the URL of the host page is masked.

I strongly object on this post and want that post should immedidately be shifted to SPAM BOX - or you are harting the true meaning of this HTML Forums by keeping this thread live. Decide yourself.

Hi Eforms. You know, I forgot all about this thread? It was originally created on: 06-09-2000, The Spam Box wasn't created until 6 months later. This has since slipped my mind. You're right though, it should be moved there indeed. I'd like to keep alive as a tribute to how silly people can be though, when someone just uses the word "free". However it's new home is now several categories down in....dum dum dum... The Spam Box. :D
