The purpose of link trades or reciprocal linking has the same kind of idea as you scratch my back i'll scratch yours. You already have the visitor at your site, and you know there not going to stay there forever. So why not send them to a partner sites? In exchange for one of there visitors that has never been to your site.
I could get into more details, but I think you get the picture, or at least a part of it http://www.123webmaster.com/ubb/ubbhtml/smile.gif

If anyone is interested in exchanging back scratches, email me. http://talkboard.123webmaster.com/ubbhtml/smile.gif I am especially interested in sites that list webmaster resources. Thanks!

Actually Banner Exchanges could be good for more traffic to your website. It depends on the exchange.
Many exchanges have bad rap and people start to think all the exchanges are like that.
Its because they sellout members to sponsors, have lots of cheaters and all types of stuff.
We here at Traffic Exchange are working to change all of this.
If you went to our website at http://www.traffic-exchange.com you will see all the features and benefits we offer.
You should consider joining our exchange to see exactly why people join and how it will help your site.
