DO the search engines only use something caled "the opened text directory" now? can i still submit my web to the search engines like normal?

I guess you mean Open Directory. Search engines like Altavista are now using Open Directory listings. Coupled with the fact that Open Directory has changed their submission guidelines and now allows you to submit important sub-pages good listings there are becoming as all-important as a Yahoo listing. On the other hand a good
Yahoo listing never stopped you from submitting to search engines so this new developement should not either.
