simple version:

web 1.0 (although there never really has been a web 1.0 as such) was where content was posted from the administrator of a site and simply read by users... maybe with some mechanism for simple comments and discussion, but nothing more.

web 2.0 (which, in my view, still is just a pretentious marketing blurb and has no real meaning) is where content is primarily provided by users and supports and encourages user-to-user interaction - think FaceBook (www.facebook.com) or LibraryThing (www.librarything.com) or YouTube (www.youtube.com)
mostly, the developers of these sites have just created a framework in which all content comes from the users

You look at this website and you have options to add posts to delicious, digg, ect. It allows content to be more freely promoted and accessed by all.

In web1.0 you can only read but web2.0 you can read as well as write. Web2.0 is more user friendly then web1.0

Web 1.0 was dial up. Web 2.0 is broadband.

Web 1.0 was IE. Web 2.0 is FireFox.

Web 1.0 was information. Web 2.0 is opinion.

Wait a minute, enough fun and games. Let’s get real and take off the rosy-colored glasses.

Web 1.0 was information. Web 2.0 is propaganda.

Web 1.0 was Microsoft. Web 2.0 is Google. Web 3.0 is ATT and NSA, working to protect us.

Web 1.0 was American. Web 2.0 is international. Web 3.0 is Chinese.

Web 1.0 was a tool. Web 2.0 is a lifestyle. Web 3.0 is an addiction.

Web 1.0 was a tool for the few. Web 2.0 is entertainment for the many. Web 3.0 is an opiate for the many.

Web 1.0 was the newspaper. Web 2.0 is the TV. Web 3.0 is the Matrix.

Hi,
Many few users know the basic difference between web1.0 and 2.0 the web 1.0 is the fundamental concepts that build the initial part of the web. Static pages are common design during first generation. On the other hand web 2.0 came out with dynamic page facilitating more benefits to business. Multimedia is the general concept in web 2.0 with videos and movies sharing websites emerging in the market.
The web based community blends millions of people over a single network. But on the other side web 1.0 had the usage capacity of only low resolution GIF files.
Thanks.

hkp819 - opinion & nonsense!!! No facts!

I think web 2 is massive hype for shiny buttons and refelective logos etc. etc.

However, if you want to keep up with things - I typed something like...

'good web 2 design' into Google - and found this....

http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-design/web-2.0-design-style-guide.php

I have nothing to do with this site - but if you want to look web2 - this guy brings you up to speed fast.

Vij - dynamic pages were around for YEARS prior to web 2.0.

Hi,
Web 2.0 refers to how we are using the internet today. There is no one definition of Web 2.0.With Web 2.0 we don’t just use the internet we interact with it. Keywords to describe Web 2.0 are community, collaboration and user-driven. The way we used Web 1.0 was typically very linear.
Web 2.0 sites allow users to interact not only with the site and webmaster but with other people who access the site. Some good examples of Web 2.0 sites are Facebook, MySpace, and Digg
Thanks..

In my opinion, they are both the same. They are just used as a marketing term for creating and using social networking sites as the new wave of the future.

Web 1.0: you read
Web 2.0: you read and write
Web 3.0 (aka semantic web): you read, write and link.

Cheers,
