Is anyone else noticing a very strong trend withthe search engines these days?
"Hi,
Thank you for your interest in Ask Jeeves. For business reasons, we have
discontinued our Add a URL program. We are not accommodating new URLs at
this time.
Please visit our homepage at http://ask.com and click on our "Advertise"
link for information on other advertising options.
Kind regards,
Ask Jeeves Consumer Support
jeeves@askjeeves.com"
ok, I think they have cut their own throats here. Would you go and use a search engine that only contained out-of-date listings? I think not, when you go to search, you generally like to access the latest info on the net (IE: updated correct URL's to sites etc, not necessarily new content).
Another thing is that out-of-date links will result in less traffic going there, with less traffic will mean loss of revenue, so they are only killing themselves.
Sorry Jeeves, bad move , down the tube you go. :thumbdn:

Ask Jeeves gets URL’s from Looksmart now. So many search portals use Looksmart its pathetic. I think that it delivers poor results under some categories for the user like entertainment where only commercial web sites appear! Granted it does a good job on government and fair job on health and education based web sites but do search for music, movies, computer games etc… and you get commercial web shops where I really want reviews and information.
Web masters are also reluctant to pay them money as only the Looksmart review team who are probably monkeys guarantees placement positioning unlike Google. Its the same with Key Words and Webwurld(who I have payed £66 to as they are the cheepest).
It’s a shame because in the past so many web portals where powered by own results or www.Google.com who do a fine job. Google still do and it’s a shame they do not sell or afford to give away Google as a browser embedded web service.
Is it fair if I say that Looksmart is also one of the reasons that 'Search Engine Tactics' section of HTML forums is in decline because so much power is taken away from webmasters.
I should try and build my own search engine using my crappy www.illboy.co.uk. It currently has Java script from the A1javasripts but I could replace it with my own searchable directory.

You cant get hold of a CD that has Google.com with Internet Explorer. What you do get is NTL, Tascali, AOL (with netscape)etc.. as your homepage set on your browser.
