Temporary amnesty has been granted for folks that are using pirated software and who want to come clean without penalties. Till the end of January the Business Software Alliance will be offering a "grace period" to register your software and start fresh.

Think there'll be many bites?

Probably not. There will be a lot of people that will wish that they did come clean, though, when they are prosecuted :).
No...There is a very slight chance a person could actually get busted. The government doesn't have the time and money to go after millions of these users.
Thanks,
Paul

Quite right. The only thing is that this is the Business Software Alliance that we are talking about. It is very unlikely that if I duplicate Office 2000 and give it to all my friends that I will be prosecuted but if I am Motorola Corporation and I am using an illegal copy of software on hundreds or thousands of computers, it is a bit more serious it will be much more likely that I will be caught.
Good Day!

The BSA does this at the beginning of every year.
Don't know how the response is, though.
