how can I get traffic

Hi

Could anybody give me suggestion or a lead on how to get traffic to my site ??? I have this website more or less ready and I have to get people to visit it... banner exchange is apealing however if nobody visit my site then the exchange is useless. paying for advertising is ok but the return is always incertain. so any suggestions ???

Hi Smith,

I would suggest contacting other small sites just getting started for some link exchanges, as few as you can get a few visitors a day going through, try contacting some larger sites. Although most people don't like topsites/ranking lists, it sometimes helps to use them when you are starting off to build enough traffic so that some larger sites will look at you.

The best type of site to partner with is one that is already listed in some search engines, so that the search engines will spider your site as well.

Top sites are great. When I realeased my new resource directory I had 0 traffic. I added myself to a couple top site lists and only after a couple days I had around 200 unique hits a day. I got lucky so you might not get that but you should see about 50 hits a day. Then you could grow on that. What is your site about?

I would first focus on the directories, ie Yahoo, Looksmart, DMOZ. It will cost you up front but it is well worth it. Read up on what to do to prepare for those submissions at http://searchenginewatch.com/webmasters/directories.html

you can use META tags and descriptions, titles etc. to achieve optimal placement on multiple search engine and this can raise good traffic on your site. search engine generate near about 70-80% of traffic. Place your site on major search engines.

always hard startign out, best way is to try and get a good search engine position and then work your way from there

The only way I have found effective to get high quality traffic is to buy it from an targeted site.

Example: Your site about cars, find a site about cars and buy advertisment from them.

Sure there's other ways to get traffic to your site. But it's not the amount of traffic you get. It is the quality.

What are you looking for? Just traffic or hits? or do you want real visitors to come to your site, what I mean by that is this, so you get 1,000 hits today, great but, are they the ones you really want or looking for? I run a softball site, if you don't like softball, why visit my site? is that a real visitor? no, a real visitor would be from someone that likes softball and sticks around awhile, and goes to other pages, stays on my site for an 1/2 hour or so, I would rather have 500 visitors that like softball than getting a 1,000 hits a day, and then most leave after the first page. It takes work, get linked with others in your area, and go from there, leave your URL link on message boards, or guestbooks in your area of course. I know this is an old post but it might be of help to someone else.
