send url to address bar without refresh?

hi all,

is it possible to send a url to the adress bar without having the page actually going to it or the page refreshing?

for instance,

my current window adress is http://google.com

and i want to to be able to click on a link and turn the adress bar into http://google.com/?page=3 without what i've mentioned?

u mean by "without having the page actually going to it " that the user on http://google.com page, the address bar will become http://google.com/?page=3 but the user will stiil be on http://google.com page?!

I don't see any possibility of it. Or you can just create another page having the same contents but different address (awful).:eek::eek:
Or better type the address in the address bar,,,,but don't tick the enter button.!...:lol::lol:
